Not the best picture, but these were a really fun technique. A little fiddly, but it was mostly drying time, not hands-on time.
You take an egg and blow it out, although you could use hard-boiled eggs. I didn't take too much time at this, which is why my holes are pretty big, but guess what? A four-year-old doesn't care! But I did like the technique, so I'll probably try again and do a better job with blowing out the eggs so we can keep them.
Place the eggs on a wooden skewer or similar. Then drizzle the egg with rubber cement. Let it dry. I used a hair dryer to speed this up for Eva. Then dip it in egg dye. Let dry, and repeat the process for any other colors you want to use. Once they're complete, rub off the rubber cement.
We had good luck with using different colors of dye and using darker coats of the same color dye. Easy enough for a kid to do most of, but with nice results...
